James Edward "Uncle Ed'" Thomas lived on Big Doubles Creek in Knott County, Kentucky. He was born in 1850 and is assumed to have made around 1500 dulcimers. He was a friend of my father, Mal Gibson, who helped bury him in an unmarked grave in 1933. This instrument was bought from Uncle Ed by Henry Neace of Letcher County, Kentucky ca. 1910. I have been researching the life of Uncle Ed for about 40 years.
