This German-American sheitholt was bought at an auction in Virginia. (The American dulcimer was patterened after the German sheitholt.) It was a consignment by Roddy Moore. Germans settled in the mountains very early and possibly brought sheitholts with them. They also made sheitholts from American wood: this instrument is made from American tulip poplar and painted black.
